Pope Francis was the head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State from 2013 until his death in 2025. He was the first pope from the Society of Jesus, the first Latin American, the first from the
Jorge Mario Bergoglio Americas, the first from the Southern Hemisphere, and the first born or raised outside of Europe
CHURCH NEWS:
Last Sunday, we remembered the anniversaries of Jim Morrissey and Martin & Delia Chawke. I measc na naofa go mbeidh síad I gcónaí.
Easter Celebrations: Great to see so many attending the Easter ceremonies. Many thanks to those who took part in the liturgy, the choir and especially to those who arranged the readers and prepared the Church. As usual it was looking beautiful Easter Sunday, of course thanks to Sacristan Kathleen for all her extra work and dedication to our little Church.
Pope Francis passed away and it seemed fitting that it happened Easter Monday. A man of great humility and compassion who introduced many changes during his tenure in Rome. The first Latin-American pope, he sought to project simplicity into the grand role and never took possession of the papal apartments. As his papacy progressed, he faced criticism from conservatives, who accused him of trashing cherished traditions and drew the ire of progressives, who felt he should have done much more... One cannot win.! May his gentle soul rest in Heavenly Peace.
