PETER ROBINSON STORY:

Across Limerick & Cork many communities are connected to the 1823 and 1825 Peter Robinson Emigration Scheme story. In those years 2,500 people from across North Cork and Limerick departed on eleven ships from the Port of “Cove” as it was then known, bound for the Ottawa and Ontario valleys of Upper Canada.

2025 is the 200th anniversary of this emigration and from September 15th- 21st, Ballyhoura Development have in place a week long commemoration programme called “The Ireland Canada Homecoming” . At least 150 descendants of the families, from across Canada and the US will arrive to take part in multiple events and tours.

One of the key events you may be interested in attending is - The Peter Robinson Experiment – a newly commissioned play, that will bring to life the story of 200 years- showing nightly at 8pm from September 15th- 21st in the Schoolyard theatre, Charleville. Tickets available on Eventbrite.
