Season of Creation: This year’s symbol is inspired by Isaiah, titled ‘Garden of Peace,’ it depicts a white dove flying over a tree. The left side of the tree is barren, with roots digging into dry soil, surrounded by an arid, desolate landscape. In contrast, the right side of the tree is lush and green, standing amidst a flourishing landscape. The dove, carrying an olive branch in its beak, flies toward the right—symbolizing peace, as a transition from a war-torn, overexploited land to one that is fertile, thriving, and hospitable. Let us remember that humanity was originally called to tend a garden. The white dove with an olive branch is a globally recognized symbol of peace. In the story of Noah, it also signifies new life after destruction.
There are many challenges facing communities across the globe, whether it’s from conflict and war, or the impact of human activity on habitats, storm devastation, rising sea levels, excessive consumption and lasting pollution. Pope Francis was quite clear that the cry of the poor and the cry of the earth are bound together and must both be addressed. Every choice we make is a thread in the fabric of creation…what we eat…what we waste…what we consume…how we travel …where we invest our time, money, and care.
We are not being asked to save the world alone. But we are being asked to change, to examine how our lives, even in small ways, contribute to harm or healing. This is not about guilt, it is about grace. So let us ask ourselves: What comforts am I willing to release so that others may live in dignity and the Earth may breathe again?

HEALTH & HEARING:
A very interesting article in last Sunday's paper - people over 50 must increase their exercise to stay healthy.!
Prof Rose Anne Kenny did a study on Ageing and her findings are not good news for us. (1) The nation is heading towards a big increase in disability by 2040. (2) Ireland is one of the most rapidly ageing countries in Europe. (3) While people are living longer many endure poor health for over a decade before their death. (4) Dementia is one of the reasons disability is increasing. Amazingly, poor hearing is a major risk factor for getting dementia later ! They think it's because, to keep the brain stimulated, it needs sensory input & hearing is the most important sensory input we've got. Coincidentally, I happened to hear Kevin Quaid on radio lately - he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s nine years ago, and was later diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. He is Chair of the Irish Dementia Working Group. He said he was suffering from night terrors/nightmares & was told to get his hearing tested. He did that, began wearing hearing aids & that finished the night terrors for him.!
Another hugely important risk factor is lack of exercise. When you exercise, the brain produces a certain protein which is very good for memory.!
Just because you're getting older, doesn't mean you do less - you need to do more because your muscles need more. People who are not mobile can benefit from chair exercises. Prof. Kenny recommends three different kinds of exercises - Aerobic, Strengthening & Balance exercises. Interestingly, we could not get ten people for the chair exercise class in the Hall..
