Trocaire are helping children who are born into some of the longest running conflicts in the world e.g. Palestine, Sudan, Somalia. You have all heard of Gaza - which has been controlled by Hamas for more than a decade. The country has been through three wars - the most recent in 2014, in which 495 children died. The Gaza strip is slightly smaller than County Louth but has nearly 2 million people living in it - one of the most densely populated places on earth and is barricaded by a large security wall and fences. The country has been crippled by the Israeli and Egyptian blockades & youth unemployment - as movement in and out is prevented, so they are not being allowed to help themselves. On its sunny shoreline, across the Mediterranean, their fishing boats are only allowed venture five nautical miles before they are turned back by warning shots. Most cannot leave this small area in order to access healthcare, education or to work in other countries and only limited supplies of goods can enter or leave.! 1.3 of the 1.9 million people, now rely on food relief....! Trócaire is on the ground here, working with local partner organisations. They are responding to the crisis with healthcare, psychological support, legal support and delivering food and shelter. You can help by purchasing a Gift card - Mary O'Regan will be selling them on behalf of Trócaire - On Saturday 14th, after Mass, in Granagh and on Sunday 15th in Ballingarry. There is a selection which includes; €5 - Soap. € 8 - Baby Chicks. € 15 - Seeds & Tools. € 15 - Solar Light. € 20 - School Lunches. € 30 - School Kit. € 50 - Help a Granny.
