FIRST COMMUNION: Next weekend we have our First Holy Communion Mass in Granagh. We welcome all to the 11.00am mass in Granagh on Saturday and we congratulate all the boys and girls and their families.
TROCAIRE: The time has come to empty the boxes and count up the money collected. We would appreciate if you could return all the Trocaire Boxes this coming weekend as we hope to forward your generous cheque to Trocaire on Monday next. Your gift, however small, could provide comfort to families in desperate need.
CONGRATULATIONS: The wedding of Maureen Murphy and David O'Sullivan, Graigacurra, took place in Kenmare on Friday 26th, the same day as Hurricane Hannah.! Luckily everything went well for them and we wish them many years of health and happiness. Also congratulations to Maureen and JJ Enright on the safe arrival of their little girl, Maeve, at the weekend. ALZHEIMER's TEA DAY: The Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland is a national nonprofit organisation. It advocates, empowers and champions the rights of people living with dementia, to quality support and services. There are currently 55,000 people in Ireland living with dementia, the most common form of which is Alzheimer’s disease. Locally, St.Gobnaits, Nursing Home will host a tea party on Thursday 2nd, 2pm - 4pm, to support this wonderful organisation. Please pop in for a cup of tea, buy a raffle ticket, or, if you cannot join us on the day we will gladly accept a donation. Every little really does help!
PASTORAL AREA: Over the next two weekends, the parish welcomes Fr. Liam Enright and Fr. Ed Irwin who will be celebrating our parish weekend masses. Fr. Lane will be in Rathkeale and Cloncagh/Knockaderry on those weekends.
CRY- MONAGEA: Are you cycling on Saturday May 4th? Registration takes place for ALL events in the Hall on Saturday morning from 7.30am and also Friday night from 7.30pm. All cycles start at 9am, Run/Walk at 11am. Parking available near the hall. Is your knowledge of the west Limerick byways not the best! Which route have you chosen or are you still undecided? The lads from Desmond Sportive will be on hand in the morning and all day to help you out and advise. Three routes to chose from 70km, 110km and 125km, all well marked out and marshalled.
RATHFREDAGH FETE: We're looking for volunteers for our annual Garden Fete which will be held on Sunday the 7th of July. Volunteers to man the stalls, man the gates, sell lines for the raffle during the weeks leading up to the Fete, etc. If you're interested and can help out, please contact Rathfredagh Cheshire home. 069 83100. Goods for the Fete can already be brought in. We're looking for bric-a-brac, still wearable clothes, plants, books, CD's and DVD's, full bottles for our bottle stall (from alcoholic drinks to vinegar and lemonades, etc) and raffle prizes.
EXAM TIME: Wishing the best of luck to all those facing the Junior, Leaving and College exams in the next few months. There are books in each Church, if you would like to add students names and have them included in our prayers.
GAA OSKARS: What a fabulous night of entertainment, everyone had at the Oskars.!! We had the limousine dropping the stars to the red carpet, we had the glitter, the fabulous style, the tuxedos & the Liam McCarthy - Hurricane Hannah didn't get a look in..!! Congratulations to all concerned, the films were a credit to the actors and producers. A lot of time, thought and effort went into each film so much so that the ten minutes seemed too short, we would have loved to have seen the edited sections as well. Well done to the organinsing committee for taking on this mammoth challenge. It was visible from the programme that the business sponsors were more than generous, not only taking adverts, but sponsoring each of the seven films and providing fabulous raffle prizes as well. As Pat Herlihy mentioned, it is most important to support the sponsors and local business' at every opportunity. People were also very generous providing venues near and far, for filming, a selection of animals from hens to horses, vintage bikes, cars, trucks and a lot of guns minus the ammunition.! The judging panel was led by Maeve McGrath, actress, writer and producer, well known for her first role as Lorranie Molloy in Fair City. She was ably assisted by Donal OGrady and Donie Ryan who were very impressive movie buffs and made a great comedy duo !! Winners of the Oskars for Best Movie - 'Michael Collins', sponsored by Pete Healy/Dan Cagney, chosen by audience votes and judges. MerLee as producer had a cast of sixteen with thirty eight extras plus children. Oskar for Best Actor - Jim. Chawke (The Bull McCabe) sponsored by Evolution Signage and chosen by the Judges. Oskar for Best Actress - Natalie Stapleton ( Annie Wilkes in Misery) sponsored by O'Gormans Foodstore and chosen by the Judges. Oskars for Best Supporting Actors - Adrian Farragher (Paulsey) & Donagh McCarthy (Scud) in 'Man about Dog', sponsored by Kerry and chosen by the Judges. Oskar for Best Supporting Actress - Brenda OKeeffe ( Megan in Bridesmaids) sponsored by Solar21 and chosen by the judges. Best Grossing Individual - Vincent OKeeffe. Highest Grossing Movie - 'Man about Dog'. Not forgetting the other movies of course. ' Sister Act ' sponsored by Dolphin Trust, with producers Emma Chawke and Theresa Noonan had a cast of twelve and eight extras. ' The Field' sponsored by O'Gradys' Spar, produced by Jim Chawke had a cast of eleven with twenty three extras. 'Misery' sponsored by Granagh Pebbles, produced by Natalie Stapleton had a cast of just three people. 'Man about Dog' sponsored by Wealth Options Capital, produced by Paul McDonagh with a cast of twelve and patrons of the Greyhound Stadium as extras. 'Bridesmaids' sponsored by Healy Partners Architects, produced by Breda O'Keeffe with a cast of eight and twelve extras. ' The Snapper ' sponsored by The Rock Bar, produced by Seamus Twomey with a cast of fourteen and children from their families as extras. Special mention to Marian Sheehy who spent several days with the film crew capturing photos/close-ups of all the action and gave us views behind the scenes, which may not have been shown on the final film.
