MEDITATION CLASS:
Sunday 3rd June, 11.00am in the Community Centre, Loving-kindness Meditation: This is a heart meditation and helps you to develop the mental habit of selfless or altruistic love.
The practice always begins with developing a loving acceptance of yourself. You will take your good vibes home, to work and into your relationships.
Applying the practice to daily life is a matter of directing a friendly attitude and having openness toward everybody you relate to, without discrimination. You will be guided throughout the mediation and will be sitting in a chair. We will begin with some stretches to allow you sit comfortable and after the meditation you'll relax to allow the practice to settle within you.
Cost E12 per person. "Practice love until you remember you are love " .
COMMUNITY CENTRE AVAILABILITY:
Last year a sub-committee of the Development Assoc. completed a lengthy and time consuming application for LEADER funding, which was passed earlier this year. The work involves replacing the main floor and two of the room floors plus insulating the front wall of the Hall. The builder cannot commence this work until mid-August with a finishing date, mid to late October. Therefore the Hall will be unavailable for bookings/classes/functions etc until all this work is completed. We were hoping that the work could be completed during the Summer months but due to delays in the new LEADER management programme, we only got the go ahead in April, which was three months later than the original date.
LISKENNETT CAR PARK:
Another sub-committee were working on this project also. The plan is to provide a small car park beside Lyons's Cottage, so that walkers can safely park off-road and easily access all the walks on Liskennett Wood. Again, this was given the go-ahead in April and will hopefully commence in July.

THE 'LIMERICK LION':
Did you know, Ireland's Strongest Man for the second year in a row is a Patrick O'Dwyer, from
Newcastle West, thirty one years old, who weighs in at 23st (146kg) .?
He has dominated the Irish Strongman circuit for the past two years by winning consecutive Ireland Strongest Man titles. Winning this contest allowed Pa to compete against the best in the UK . He used this as motivation to take on these giants of the sport over thirteen events in Belfast and on the last event produced the goods to gain third position in the UK Strongest Man 2017. "The events on the day of the final consisted of picking up the back of a van,as many times as possible, lifting boulders of concrete on to barrels and flipping a 450kg Earth mover tyre".
Pa is known for being the “Limerick Lion” and has the potential to be a success with Ultimate Strongman. This year he plans to win the UK Strongest Man 2018 and win his Ireland Strongest Man title for a joint record 3rd time. When in training for an event Pa eats eight to ten thousand calories per day. To put that into perspective, the average intake for a male is two and a half thousand.
Along with a grueling training regime, the athlete's daily food diary ranges between 8000 and 10,000 kcals and his lunch alone packs a punch with more than a pound of mince as the main ingredient. The weekly shop sets him back an eye-watering €300 to €400 - vital fuel to continue the high intensity training needed to reclaim his All-Ireland title and also have a shot at competitions across the water. The athlete admits that he favours horse meat or venison, as there's a higher quality of protein and less saturated fat, and he eats eight eggs, 1lb of mince, 450g of chicken and a large steak every day as part of his mammoth eight meals. To increase his calorie intake Patrick awakens at 3.30am to drink the first of three mass gainer shakes, which each clock in at 1200 kcals, and every day the athlete consumes more than 1.5 litres of whole milk. Strongman training is much more grueling than normal training because a session can take up to 2-3 hours per day. Sessions range from pulling 20 tonn trucks, lifting his own car and lifting objects over his head - some of them weighing up to 27-28 stone.
Amazingly, he has no sponsors and is doing this out of his own pocket..!!!
