Happy St. Patrick's Day:
I was delighted to get a note last week from Ita O'Brien, originally from Woodcock, now resident in the US. Ita follows all the local news on Facebook and the Web page. She was delighted to see all the old videos recently, which were filmed by Fr. Brown and she knew lots of people in them.
She emigrated to the US as a young adult, met her husband Denis J. Moriarty there and they married in 1956. They have been living in the Little Flower Parish, Indianapolis since 1962. Denis is a charter member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and has been very active in the organisation since he helped organise it in the 1950s. Ita and Denis have five sons - Gerard, Denis Jr, David, Aidan and Brendan. They decided to honour their dad by sponsoring an annual scholarship for a deserving graduating high school student. Apparently, they decided their dad had probably enough socks and jumpers to last awhile and they wanted to honour him with something more lasting. !!
The scholarship was awarded for the first time on st. Patrick's Day, March 2017. (See photo).

The children have prepared an art exhibition “Granagh National School – Past, Present and Future”, together with the Barrett sisters and a number of local artists. The Exhibition will be held in the Community Centre on Wednesday, 21st March 2018 at 7.00 pm. All paintings will be available for purchase on the night. An open invitation is extended to all members of the community to join us for the exhibition. Members of the community are also invited to submit a painting and special art paper for this purpose is available for collection from the school. Our Parents’ Association has very kindly agreed to provide refreshments to celebrate this special occasion and a raffle, with great prizes, will conclude the night. All proceeds will go towards replacing the floor covering in the school.

Friday 30th March or whenever you and the family can get out to clean a section of your road.!! As an example to us all, Pebbles Montessori have already been out and done their clean-up on the Knockfierna road. They were disgusted with all the rubbish they found and having to pick up every single item will make them think twice about littering. We all need to become more aware of keeping Ireland free of litter.
