GRANAGH PLAYERS -EXTRA NIGHT.

EXTRA NIGHT:

GRANAGH PLAYERS:

" Due to popular Demand " we are back again on Sunday night, 12th Feb, for the final performance of ' The Hostage' by Brendan Behan.

Producer, cast and crew have been thrilled with the audiences and their tremendous reactions. Producer, Jimmy Sheehy has turned out an amazing production of this play and only those who had seen the original script, could appreciate the job he did. Brendan Behan is a completely different kind of playwright compared to what we are used to from JB Keane , Friel, Kavanagh etc. There is no shortage of comedies being produced locally, so it's great to do something different.! Of course you need a confident and experienced cast to do this and we are lucky to have just that. Not alone can they act but they sing and play as well. Music and song are a very important part of this play as is the history of Ireland. We are lucky to have local talented musicians - Lily Hanley, Susan Moran, Ellen Murphy and Liam Houlihan. To get all these elements to come together seamlessly is a challenge only the bravest would take on.!

Of course, there are many more people involved in our Drama productions. The backstage crew are invaluable. We have Mary Morrissey and Lorraine Fitzgibbon who successfully beautify the cast for every performance. Our continuity girls, Eileen Simcox and Marian Sheehy cannot be done without, no rest for them any night... Sean English on lights is so dependable while remaining cool and calm !!!

The Development Association members look after all the extra offstage details. Then you have the volunteers who turn up to help in the kitchen and most importantly supply the cast and crew with the most delicious sandwiches, tarts, cream buns etc. These niceties, give them the required sugar boost to complete the second half of the play.!! Luckily the ladies bake more than enough and they always have some left over for the final Cupán Tae. Not forgetting the lads in the car park, who are out, no matter the weather. Times have changed in the last ten years and now they have also to keep an eye on the cars in case of any unwelcome visitors. So many people are needed in order to run off these two weekends, without all of them it could not happen.

We are so lucky with our Sponsors, they have been unbelievably generous, over the last ten years. Because of them we can give out €50 as a first prize each night along with another seven to ten prizes. You will not come across this at any other drama night.!! We may be a little biased BUT we do encourage anyone that missed out, not to let this final opportunity pass. We can guarantee, that you will have to travel, before you see anything like it.....

HEALING MASS:

Sat 11th Feb: World Day of the Sick. This coming weekend, Mass times will change in order to to facilitate anybody who may be unwell but would still like to go to Mass. On Saturday 11th, Granagh changes to 6.00pm and on Sunday 12th, Ballingarry changes to 11.30am.

CHOMHBHRÓN:

We offer our sympathies to the family of Mike O'Mara, Graigacurra, on the death of his father Michael of Ballygeale, Patrickswell. Requiem Mass was held on Tuesday in Patrickswell with burial afterwards in Crecora Cemetery. Go raibh leaba i measc na Naómh aige.

Granagh Ballingarry Ladies Football:

We are delighted to announce that Granagh Ballingarry have been chosen to run the GA4 programme in 2017. This is a LGFA National Initiative. It is a huge honour for the club as there was a maximum of two sites chosen per county. We were informed the application was chosen as it was felt ‘ there was great potential to grow and sustain the number of juveniles participating at the club’. As a result we are asking anyone who may be interested in training as a coach for the programme to please contact club Co-ordinator Orla Keating. Details of how girls can sign up will follow in the coming weeks.

We send our congratulations to Denis O'Connor, Ballyguile, who has recently qualified as a Garda. Wishing him the very best of luck in his new career.
