Camogie Win:

CONGRATULATIONS:

Granagh U14 Girls are County Camogie champions after their final on Sunday versus Adare. Well done to captain Ciara English, team members and coaches. The weather was not kind to any of the local teams playing Sunday.

Well done also to the Granagh/Ballingarry U10 hurlers who won the Cahill Memorial Cup in Kilfinane, on 11th Sept.

YOUTH CHOIR DATES:

The first meeting of the Youth choir was held on Monday 19th. Boys and Girls from Juniors to 6th Class

are welcome to join.

Their first Mass will be Saturday 24th September, at 7 pm, with a practise before this Mass from 6.30pm. We hope there will be a good response as it would be a lovely addition to our Mass. This will coincide with the children's first communion Mass also.

COMMUNION 2017:

This coming weekend, Saturday 24th, we will be welcoming the First Communion class and their families. This is the first of nine special Masses between now and May, where the families meet up and celebrate together.

GRANAGH UTD:

FAI Cup Away Match. Dingle Bay Rover's V's Granagh Utd. Sunday, 2nd October 2016

Last call-out for a manager for the U8s, otherwise they will not be able to participate in competitions this year.

HARVEST MASSES:

This year there will be two Harvest Masses of Thanksgiving. We have a unique and special Act of Remembering & Thanksgiving for all those who have gone before us and who were responsible for influencing our lives.

On the 1st/2nd Oct each family is invited to bring along a little pot plant, place it in an old shoe/boot/wellie, and tag it with the family name. We will have a date next week when they can be dropped into Church.

On the weekend of 8/9th Oct, we are asked to think of how blessed we have been in our lives over the past year. People are invited to donate whatever non-perishables they can, to help out the needy and those who are not so privileged.

GRANAGH DEV. ASSOC:

We are inviting prospective members to join us for an Information Evening on Thursday 6th Oct, at 8pm. We will give a short summary of what we do and hopefully encourage some of you to help us out. Every committee needs to change, to be refreshed with new ideas and reflect the different areas in a parish.

You have often heard comments such as - " I never knew anything about it " or " Why don't THEY do this that or the other ?" .

The only way to get things done is to get involved yourself and by being involved you will know everything that goes on.

The days of 'THEY' doing anything, is gone.! Rural parishes have to look after themselves, nobody else will.

If we do not have up and coming new members and our officers wish to retire, there is no one to replace them and the organisation has to be disbanded.! We hope it doesn't come to that.

CUAN MHUIRE 50yrs:

Cuan Mhuire is Ireland’s largest provider of residential addiction treatment and rehabilitation and is currently marking fifty years in Athy, founded by the very determined Sr. Consilio. Sr Consilio was born Eileen Fitzgerald and grew up on a farm on the Cork/Kerry border. She was educated in Knockaclarig Primary School and at the Convent of Mercy, Abbeyfeale. After completing her leaving certificate she qualified as a nurse in the North Infirmary in Cork. She then entered the Order of Mercy in Athyand is still a member of that community. Some years later, Sr Consilio returned to Cork, to St Finbar’s Hospital where she qualified as a midwife.

While working in St Vincent’s Hospital in Athy, Sr Consilio came in contact with many ‘road men’. As she got to know them she decided that someday she would have a place that they could call home. It was in 1966, in an old dairy in the Convent of Mercy in Athy, that the first Cuan Mhuire was born.

For Sr Consilio this was the first seed on a journey of development leading to the establishment of nationwide centres for people with addiction problems. Her achievements in the past 48 years are truly amazing. Her first residential centre inAthy, has been followed over the years by the opening of Cuan Mhuire Centres atBruree, Newry, Co Down, Coolarne, Co Galway and Farnanes, Co Cork. In addition, Sr Consilio has opened a number of transition houses at Gardiner Street, Dublin,Galway City, Limerick City and Ballybay, Co Monaghan.

At any given time, the Cuan Mhuire organisation, cares for some 600 residents at its five treatment centres, dealing with approximately 2500 people each year. Her sister, Sr. Agnes has been in charge of Bruree since the 70s and their latest addition, in 2008, has been the beautiful garden centre.

Sincere congratulations to these two Sisters, their many helpers and staff, for their positive contribution to the lives of so many people.

Arts Class beginning on Monday 26th September from 7pm - 9pm, €8 per person per class. Arts & Crafts every Tuesday from 10am - 1pm. Crazy Crochet/Knitting every Wednesday from 10am - 12pm.
