CUAN MHUIRE:

The Annual Fundraising Hill walk for Cuan Mhuire Centres, will take place this coming Saturday 25th June.

This is the 50th year anniversary walk and this year it is from Ballyheigue, Co.Kerry to Kerry Head along the North Kerry way. If you would are interested in participating or would like to help fundraise for the event please contact Bruree at 063-90555 or email hillwalk@cuanmhuire.ie.

Cuan Mhuire, a charitable organisation, is Ireland’s largest provider of residential Treatment and Rehabilitation for people suffering from addiction and related issues. Since Cuan Mhuire’s foundation in 1966, by Sr. Consilio, it has treated over 75,000 people. Providing some 55% of all specialised residential addiction treatment beds in Ireland. At any one time Cuan Mhuire has the capacity to support some 600 people in residential treatment and recovery, through its nationwide network of Treatment Centres and Transition Houses located in counties Cork, Down, Dublin, Galway, Kildare, Limerick and Monaghan. Some 50% of the residents are homeless prior to coming to Cuan Mhuire therefore very few can afford the full cost of treatment.

RATHFREDAGH :

The Cheshire Home is looking for volunteers to help with their annual garden fete which will be held on Sunday 3rd July. MEN's HEALTH:

Last week was National Men's Health Week and the HSE stressed the importance of bowel screening. Bowel cancer is currently the second most common cause of cancer deaths in Ireland. Men and women aged between 60-69 can avail of a Free screening programme every two years, with a simple home kit. Freephone 1800-45-45-55 to receive a Kit.

LIMERICK 2020:

The second bid-book for European Capital of Culture, has been presented to the judges and the result will be known on 15th July. It will be awarded jointly to an Irish and Croatian city. Limerick has been shortlisted along with Galway and the South-East cluster of Waterford, Wexford & Kilkenny.

The Nationwide programme on Limerick's bid is still available on the RTE Player, (Wed 15 June).

For 30yrs the EU has designated one or more cities as a European Capital of Culture. It is one of the most prestigious cultural awards in the EU and is awarded on (1) the programme of events proposed for that city and on (2) the strength of co-operation shown locally in the field of culture. What it means, is that for one year the city chosen organises a series of cultural events with a strong European dimension which also promote cultural diversity. It would be a brilliant achievement for Limerick, we wish the committee the best of Luck.
