Granagh-Ballingarry Community Games

After a hectic weekend gone by, we are looking forward to a relaxing Easter break.

Our weekend began on Friday evening in Caherconlish, We had 17 children taking part in 3 different comedy sketches. We had two U12 teams and one U16 team and I must say there were a lot of competitors in this category, we were highly entertained. The children performed to a very high standard. I'm sure Mr. O'Gorman is in hiding this week with all the promises he made, and poor Diarmuid Flynn's blood pressure must be sky high after the class he had to put up with, as for the ladies in the loo, well I don't think they will be expecting too many wedding invitations in the post after their carry on!

Our U12 teams came joint 3rd and our U16 came so close in 2nd place; congratulations to all the children involved, they had great fun preparing for the

sketch. Special thanks to Jimmy Cliawke for his expert advice. The Granagh Players have a lot to answer for, there will be no shortage of actors/actresses in future.

Finally, our Culture Corner put on their performance of The Matchmaker, however, they were the only ones in this section so, therefore, they will go straight into the National Finals team:

Diarmuid Flynn, Nessa Houlihan, Therese Noonan, Caoirnhe Flynn, Grainne Lynch and Clara English. On Saturday all roads led us to the west of the county to Askeaton Hall for the Talent County Final. We had one modern dancing group in the U16 section, they came 4th. Next up was Nessa Markham who took part in the U12 solo singing. With 'Somewhere over the Rainbow' Nessa got full marks for her performance and claimed the gold medal, so she will represent Limerick at the National Finals in August. Aislinn Herlihy was -up next with her version of 'Alleluia', she did herself and the club proud with her performance. However, it was a very close contest for the U16s and Aislinn was awarded 4th place. Well done to all who competed. After two late nights, we had our Family Quiz Day on Sunday afternoon in Condron's pub. We were delighted with the turnout, 17 tables in all. Thank you to all our wonderful sponsors, our quizmaster, Mike and Yvonne Condron, our great committee and finally to our supporters, without you the event would not go ahead.

Next Up:
