Extra Night !

GRANAGH PLAYERS:

Final Performance.

Due to unprecedented demand, an EXTRA night of Second Honeymoon, will be performed this Wednesday 3rd Feb, at 8pm, in the community centre. Isn't it wonderful to be able to say that again this year !! Crowds have come from all over the county and beyond - Galway, Laois, Longford, Navan, Dublin - are just the ones we heard about.! Some of the locals turn their homes into B&Bs for the weekends to cater for family & friends who want to come and see the play. I think we can safely say that Dee & Margaret O'Connor, Knockaderry hold the record for the earliest arrivals - 6.30pm and they were one of the last couples to leave around 11.30pm ! Following closely, Denis & Nora O'Keeffe, Ballingarry - 6.45pm.!

Our car parkers have the tough task of turning people away as the Hall was full, up to thirty minutes before time, which people found hard to believe.!! Back in October the Cast had provisionally booked an extra Saturday night, if it was needed, but this happened to clash now with Banogue's dates. So they all had to change their plans and decided to go with Wednesday 3rd .

Producer Jim Chawke has a very talented group of actors to choose from and has chosen the perfect actor for each role. As they developed their roles they have added many personal touches, which adds to the humour.

Jim himself, a master of the craft, can deliver every punchline just perfectly. While the actors concentrate on their acting, it is the well-oiled team of background volunteers that run everything so smoothly. There's a multitude of tasks to be done behind the scenes and without all that help and co-operation, running the show for six nights would be a pain and not a pleasure. At the end of the night we all look forward to the cuppa. Jim put it well, he said it was not just a cup of tea it was ' an experience '. The ladies provide delicious apple tarts, buns, sandwiches, all freshly made - a perfect ending to a perfect night. Kevin Fitz expected a supply of his favourite cream buns from Marian Noonan's kitchen, even though she is only recovering from a broken elbow !!! We have them spoiled.....

Our sponsors have only been fantastic again this year. Due to their generosity, we can give out seven to eleven prizes each night - you will not find its like anywhere else.. Some people have also donated anonymously and do not want to be mentioned at all. The cast, crew and committee will be receiving a list of the sponsors so that we can support them whenever possible.

Our sincere thanks as always to our backroom crew - on make-up, Mary Morrissey & Lorraine Fitzgibbon. On Lighting we have a TY student, Sean English, who took this job on, having never done anything like it before. He has done a brilliant job and is spot-on every night.

All the painting on the set was done by Grace McCarthy and John Griffin and they even varnished the whole stage which set off the scene to great effect. Theresa Noonan and Peter Stapleton attacked the wall papering and it is still in place !! The last addition to the cast was Bimbo.. It was touch and go whether or not to use a live animal but Poppy Fennessy turned out a dream to work with. Of course, her Mammy, Nora Teresa, can take the credit for such a perfect actress....
