Granagh/Ballingarry Camogie Club Secretary’s Report

2015 was a busy year on and off the pitch for both players and members. Currently in the club we have 132 youth members, 25 adult members and 19 coaches/selectors. This is an increase of 16 from last year which is great. Our first event of the year was the 45 Drive Fundraiser which was very successful and a great night was had by all. The main prize was won by our card playing members Vera Sheehan and Maureen O’Gorman. At the end of the primary school year, the annual fun days in conjunction with the GAA club, took place over 2 days in order to give the kids more game time. Both days went off very well. A few weeks later at the beginning of June we took part in the national competition of Hurl Smart week. This was made up of 3 evenings of fun and games that was hosted by members of our senior panel. The juvenile players really enjoyed the activities and its something that we could replicate again in 2016. As a result of the competition, our U12 panel won the chance to play in Croke Park on the 12th July and this was a day that the girls really enjoyed. They got to play 3 matches in a blitz and it was very well organised by Croke Park. 2 days later we had a sponsored walk which was very well received and we had a great turn out on the day from players and supporters. The Mike O’Brien Tournament took place a bit later than planned but despite this it was still a great day with a great turnout. This years kiddie Halloween party was our final event and once again we had a fantastic response from all the boys and girls who made a great effort to in getting dressed up.

U6 Team

After a successful registration, we had 13 U6 girls on our panel which is very encouraging going forward. The girls organised several challenge matches during the year which they all enjoyed. Well done Johanna, Mary Liz and Kay.

U7/U8 Team

We had very big numbers , 32, this year for our U8s age group so the coaches decided to split the group in to U7 and 8s which helped give all the players more time for training and matches. A lot of credit has to go to the coaches for dealing with such large numbers. The U8 County camogie blitz was held in UL and it was an enjoyable day all for all our players. Thank you Catriona, Paula, Julianna, Deirdre, Loraine and Aishling.

U10 Team

Our U10 team took part in the Charleville League and found it very beneficial as they were able to get more match experience. Along with the other age groups, they played many challenge matches around the county. The U10’s also took part in the County Blitz in Mungret which they too enjoyed. Well done Maureen, Nora, Tara and Breda.

U12 Team

Our 12’s had a great year this year which ended on a winning note with a championship final win over Mungret. The girls played great all year with wins also in the McDonnell League and the West Final so we have a great bunch of girls on this panel and hopefully for years to come.Well done also to Laura Frawley who was on the South Limerick team that won the Eithne Neville Cup this year. Thank you Breda, Charlotte, Rhiane and Ger.

U14 Team

Our 14’s had a busy season this year. They did very well in the league and eventually lost to Galbally in the semi final, who went on to win the competition. Many of this panel also played in the Community Games and won the Limerick Competition where they come up against Glanmire in the Munster Semi Final in UL. Unfortunately they were beaten by a very good side on the day. A couple of weeks later they met in Newcastlewest in the first round of a very difficult A Championship where they were beaten. Murroe Boher were then the opposition in the plate but they too were a very good side and the U14s bowed out after a very tough match in Ballingarry. Well done also to our 3 girls that made the West Limerick team for the Eithne Neville Cup, they were Molly Cagney, Ciara O’Connor and Maeve O’Connor. Thanks to John for showing me the ropes this year.

U16 Team

The U16’s retained their league silverwear this year when they won the League title against Doon in a very entertaining final. The U16’s then lost the Championship semi final to Doon. Well done Emma and Fiona.

Minor Team

The Minor team this year are taking part in the 15 a side competition where they played St Anne’s ( Kerry ) in the first round and then suffered defeat to Newcastlewest West in UL. Thank you Kevin and Emer.

Senior

Our Seniors had another successful season which ended with a county title a few weeks ago vs Kileedy. They had a very good league campaign but unfortunately Ahane came out on top in the league semi final. We also took part in the Munster Summer league and made it as far as the semi final. Members of the panel also took part in the Kilmacud Sevens in September. Well done to Ciara, Louise, Eoin and Tommy. A Special congrats also to Vera Sheehan on winning her 16 County Title which is a great achievement.

Thank you

A huge thanks to all who helped out with all these teams as it does take a big effort by everyone involved and we look forward to your help in 2016. We had many new faces helping out this year at all levels, and this also includes many of senior players who helped out. Their help was not only appreciated by the club but by parents and under age players alike, and this is something we hope to maintain for years to come.

Thank you also to the parents who helped during the year at such events as the school blitz, the walk and and Hurl Smart Week and the Mike O’Brien Tournament. It’s vital to keep the club up and running and to do this we need all the support we can get.

Thank to both Granagh and Ballingarry Schools, Graham Russell, Granagh Ballingarry GAA and Thomas O’Donavan, for their help in preparing for the School Blitz.

Thanks also to the GAA club for the use of their facilities throughout the year and especially to Donal Mulcahy for his help throughout the season. We would like to thank Banogue GAA also for the use of their facilities during the year.

Thank you to Kevin Carroll for helping to cut the grass in O’Gorman’s field throughout the season. The pitch is looking great this year and hopefully this will continue next year. Thank you also to Granagh Soccer club for the use of their mower this year.

Thank you also to all those who donated to club throughout the year, be it financially, volunteering at events, through food donations at the various blitz’s and it was very much appreciated.

The Final thank you goes to my fellow committee members for all their help through the year as it was a bit busier than usual but still very enjoyable! Your help was very much appreciated.

Congratulations

Again in 2015 our club was well represented by players wearing the Green and White for the county teams at several age levels. Congrats to all and we wish ye all the success in 2016.

Congratulations to Eileen Costelloe on the birth of Baby Cillian a few weeks ago

Finally, the Club would like to wish our deepest sympathies to all those in the club who suffered Bereavements in 2015.
