TRI-COLOUR Presentation:

NATIONAL SCHOOL: Granagh National School really got into the Halloween spirit this year as the children dressed up on Friday the 23rd of October. We were all so impressed with the huge effort everyone put into their costumes for the day. Teachers were greeted in the yard by monsters, skeletons, witches and many more spooky creatures. A special word of thanks to all the Mums/Dads/Guardians who helped our pupils dress-up for the day. Flag Ceremony: Last Tuesday, 3rd, the boys and girls of Granagh National School experienced a little piece of history. Two members of the Defence Forces came to the school to present the pupils, staff and members of the Board of Management with our national flag and a copy of the 1916 Proclamation. They were Lieutenant Daragh Lavelle and Private Chloe McMahon. They explained to all the boys and girls that they had come to present the flag, and that it was a part of the government’s commemoration of the 100th anniversary of 1916, and that next year every school in Ireland will raise the flag on March 15th. Private McMahon proceeded to read the Proclamation, with help from Sandra Hartigan from 6th class. When Private McMahon finished reading the proclamation it was presented to Eamonn Noonan from 6th class. The flag was then presented to Jordan Madden and Eoin Herlihy, also from 6th class. The ceremony finished with everybody standing to attention and singing our national anthem, ‘Amhráin na bhFiann’. COMMUNITY GAMES: A.G.M. Wednesday, 11th Nov. 9pm, Supper Room, Ballingarry. In order that the community Games group survive, volunteers are very badly needed.!!! If your child participated last year, you might be able to give back some of your time this year, to help out.?? It is not fair to have the same volunteers running many of the events, a little help would make all the difference. Last year saw 18 children competing in the National Finals - a great achievement from a small community. In total we competed in 17 different events and had over 100 children affiliated. Some of the events on offer, to suit children from 5 to 16yrs; - Soccer, Hurling, Gaelic, Draughts, Handwriting, Art, Model Making, 45 Cards, Photography, Gymnastics, Talent, Culture Corner, Cross Country and Athletics. Current Committee: Chair - Mike Sheahan. Ass. Chair - Ger Hanley. Sec - Loraine Irwin. Ass. Sec. Kathy Noonan. PRO - Breda O'Kelly. Treasurer - Carmel Noonan. Ass. Treasurer - Mary Lynch. If you cannot attend but would like to help, contact Loraine at 086-0592682.

TEA DANCING: Our next Afternoon Tea Dance will be held this coming Sunday 15th at 2.30pm with music by Mike Condon. Help from any volunteers would be much appreciated.
