Granagh Ballingarry 1-4 Kileedy 1-3

Granagh Ballingarry camogie secured a prestigious county camogie title in Newcastle West on Sunday last completing a hat trick of wins under the leadership of Ciaran Carey.

A great day for Granagh Ballingarry camogie as one of the all-time camogie greats the legendary Vera Sheehan won her 16th county camogie title. Vera's spirit and love of the parish were all evident in every one of the 16 as last Sunday one of Limericks most under-appreciated sporting stars Vera deservedly won another title, playing a pivotal role.

A 1-4 to 1-3 win in tough conditions toughed out by an intensely spirited and united bunch of Granagh Ballingarry girls was the perfect start to sporting super Sunday. The game was a tactical minefield played out in the main between the 2 45s with incredibly tough play prevailing.

Deirdre Moynihan was a colossus at wing back and her quality hurling set the bar for her comrades, Emma Ryan is now the most decorated sporting member of her illustrious family, unbeaten in limerick championship camogie and she was magnificent on Sunday with her best ever performance. However alongside them Sarah Carey was imperious hurling a storm and some of her defensive nous was of the highest order with one second half flick mind blowing in its quality

Midfield battles were savagely contested and none more than between former county colleagues Dee Fitzpatrick and Fiona Hickey. Siobhan Enright was like a warrior possessed and her experience down through the years was brought to the fore in another great display in midfield.

Nash Chawke and Aoife Sheehan in the half forward line hurled with great aplomb and although were hampered by a spare player in behind, a compliment to their previous good form, the levels of pride, effort and commitment to the cause was awesome. Aoifes free taking under pressure was vital to the cause.

The Captain was an inspiration and her ability to relieve pressure and her example to her comrades was surreal, . Lisa Kelly has without doubt been a great soldier and great captain. The Emers were brilliant in the corners and have been solid, tough and skilful all year . Out of the sisters shadows and top players in their own rights . Ditto the goalkeeper , Claire Enright has been a beacon of solidity and well done to her on a fabulous year.

Rebecca Noonan is a beautiful stick player and was superb in her free taking and was vital in the win, whilst Theresa Mulcaire was magnificent all through encapsulating the sides spirit with her work rate.

Tom Stack, Eoin Ryan Louise Enright and Ciaran Carey all have had prestigious careers on various playing fields but they have passed on a lot of their undoubted knowledge to the girls, they deserve great credit for the spirit fitness and skill shown by their charges.
