GRANAGH BALLINGARRY G.A.A. CLUB SECOND FINAL IN A ROW West Minor B Football Championship semi-final Granagh-Ballingarry/Banogue…4-17 Dáithi Broudairs…1-5 Holders Granagh-Ballingarry qualified for their second West Minor B Football Championship final in a row against St Kieran's or St. Senan's on Friday 11th September at 6.15pm with a comfortable victory over gallant Dáithi Broudairs who were forced to field without a number of key players at Pairc Caoimh O Luing Feenagh on Tuesday 25th August. A small crowd watched this rematch of last year’s decided played on a top class pitch with John McGrath of Monagea in charge. Granagh-Ballingarry dominated from the throw-in but missed a number of scoring chances before Aaron Smith pointed from a placed ball on 6 minutes. Wides were exchanged before three points for Granagh-Ballingarry/Banogue by Aaron Smith from play on 8 and 9 minutes and from a placed ball on 11 minutes left it 0-4 to 0-0 in favour of Granagh-Ballingarry/Banogue on 12 minutes. Then Gearóid Matthews opened Dáithi Broudairs’ account with a point on 14 minutes cancelled out a minute later by Edward Sheehy: 0-5 to 0-1 at the end of the first quarter. A well taken point by Adam Costelloe on 17 minutes followed 3 minutes later by a smashing Aaron Smith goal increased Granagh-Ballingarry/Banogue’s advantage to 1-6 to 0-1 on 20 minutes. After good work by Jack O'Sullivan, Andy Quaid finished past Granagh-Ballingarry/Banogue keeper Darragh Brady to close the gap to five, 1-6 to 1-1 on 24 minutes. Granagh-Ballingarry/Banogue were majestic for the rest of the half with a pointed 45 by Aaron Smith on 25 minutes followed by goals by Adam Costelloe on 27 and Aaron Smith on 29 minutes to leave the holders 12 ahead 3-7 to 1-1 at the interval. Granagh-Ballingarry/Banogue started the second half where they had left off with six points from play in a ten minute spell courtesy of Edward Sheehy, Adam Costelloe, James Dore, Richie O'Keeffe, Aidan Meade and Brendan Lynch to increase their advantage to 18, 3-13 to 1-1 on 40 minutes. Dáithi Broudairs far from being overawed scored four points from platy courtesy of Jack O'Sullivan on 41, 43 and 46 minutes and Nigel O'Callaghan on 48 to reduce the gap to 14, Granagh-Ballingarry/Banogue 3-13 Dáithi Broudairs 1-5. Granagh-Ballingarry/Banogue upped their game for the remaining 12 minutes , superior in every position, with points by Adam Costelloe on 49 minutes, Cathal O'Keeffe from a placed ball on 51 minutes, Aidan Meade on 53 and Adam Costelloe from a placed ball on 56 minutes before Richie O'Keeffe added their fourth goal on 59 minutes. at the final whistle Granagh-Ballingarry/Banogue were comfortable 4-17 to 1-5 winners to qualify for their second final in a row arainst St Kieran's or St. Senan's. ON TRACK FOR SEMIS County Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship round 6 Granagh-Ballingarry…0-20 Dromin-Athlacca…1-12 Granagh-Ballingarry are back on track for a semi-final spot in the County Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship and out of the relegation zone with a hard fought five point third win at Fitzgerald Park Kilmallock on Saturday over neighbours and rivals Dromin-Athlacca who are now relegated to the second tier of Intermediate for 2016. The Kilmallock officials had their pitch in top class condition for this game played in front of a good crowd who gave great support to their teams with Shane Florish of Mungret-St Paul's in charge. It was a hard-fought close contest al through with the issue in doubt to the final whistle. Granagh-Ballingarry deserved their five point victory as they were always able to provide that little extra when needed, with Donal O'Grady and Denis O'Connor from play and Cathal O'Keeffe from placed balls in fine point-scoring form. Dromin-Athlacca, playing into the dressing-rooms goal, got off to a dream start with a cracking goal by their no. 13 David Breen after only 40 seconds. Then points were exchanged by Denis O'Connor on 2 minutes and David Reidy on 3 before five points for Granagh-Ballingarry courtesy of Denis O'Connor from a 65 on 3 minutes and play on 4 minutes, Michael Clancy on 5, Denis O'Connor (free) on 6 and Donal O'Grady on 8 minutes left Granagh-Ballingarry two ahead 0-6 to 1-1 on 8 minutes. Granagh-Ballingarry keeper Colm Noonan brought off a top class save from Eoin O'Leary on 10 minutes before points from placed balls on 11 and 13 minutes by Paul Neenan levelled the score for the second time, Granagh-Ballingarry 0-6 Dromin-Athlacca 1-3. Then points were traded by Donal O'Grady 0n 14 minutes and Paul Neenan from a placed ball on 15 to level again Dromin-Athlacca 1-4 Granagh-Ballingarry 0-7 at the end of the first quarter. Granagh-Ballingarry now began to raise their game with four points by Cathal O'Keeffe from a placed ball on 17 minutes, Denis O'Connor on 19, Cathal O'Keeffe from another placed ball on 21 and Donal O'Grady on 23 to put the boys from Knockfierna four ahead 0-11 to 1-4 on 23 minutes. then points were traded b Paul Neenan from a placed ball on 25 ins and Denis O'Connor on 27, David Mullins on 28 and Cathal O'Keeffe from a placed ball on 30 to leave Granagh-Ballingarry leading 0-13 to 1-6 at the interval. Dromin-Athlacca far from being overawed scored four points courtesy of Paul Neenan from a placed ball on 43 minutes, supersub Jason Linehan on 44 and 45 minutes and Paul Neenan on 47 to close the gap to two, Granagh-Ballingarry 0-17 Dromin-Athlacca 1-12 on 47 minutes. Three points from placed balls by 18 year old Cathal O'Keeffe on 52, 55 and 58 minutes extended Granagh-Ballingarry’s lead to vice. Dromin-Athlacca created a number of scoring chances in the final minutes, and with their no. 6 sent off after receiving a red card they could find no way past a firm Granagh-Ballingarry defence who held out for a thrilling five point 0-20 to 1-12 victory to stay in contention for a semi-final spot and out of the relegation zone, while Dromin-Athlacca and Pallasgreen, who lost to Blackrock 2-16 to 2-14, are relegated to the second tire of Intermediate for 2016. CAMOGUE ROVERS RETAIN CUP Dinny Cup final Camogue Rovers…2-14 Granagh-Ballingarry…1-11 Camogue Rovers eased into their second Dinny Cup title with a served six point win over Granagh-Ballingarry in the final of the Junior B Hurling Tournament in ideal conditions in Ballingarry on Sunday. The first 30 minutes were close and exciting with the sides going in at the interval level, Granagh-Ballingarry 1-6 camogie Rovers 2-3. Rovers with their wind at their backs added 11 more points to Granagh-Ballingarry’s five, to run out comfortable six point 2-14 to 1-1 winners of their second Dinny Cup in a row. Camogue Rovers scored 2-10 from play and 0-4 from frees; Granagh-Ballingarry scored 1-6 from play, 0-4 from frees and 0-1 from a 65. DIV 2 TITLE UP FOR GRABS Knockainey is the venue this Saturday 5th September at 6pm for the eagerly awaited clash of Granagh-Ballingarry and Knockainey to decide the destination of the Division 2 County Hurling League title for 2015. This game has generated a buzz in both clubs as Granagh-Ballingarry, who enter this rescheduled round 2 game top of the table on 10 points with Knockainey one behind on 9, seek to avenge the 1-12 to 0-14 defeat by the All Blacks in the opening round of the Premier County Intermediate Championship at Fitzgerald Park Kilmallock on Sunday 12th April. The last meeting of these teams in a league decider was for the Division 3 County League title, also played in Knockainey, on Monday 27th June when a powerful second half by Granagh-Ballingarry, in which they scored 1-8 limiting the home side to 0-2, gave them the Division 3 League title on a full time score of 3-15 to 3-8.
