LEAGUE WINNERS OFF TO A FLYING START

West Junior B Hurling Championship Group 2 Round 1

Feohanagh/Castlemahon….0-8

League winners Granagh/Ballingarry got their West Junior B hurling league campaign off to a winning start with a nine point victory over last year’s defeated finalists. Feohanagh/Castlemahon forced to field very much Understrength at Dromcollogher on Wednesday evening.

This rescheduled first half tie was played in ideal conditions on a fine pitch in front of a good crowd with Donie Neville ofCroagh/Kilfinny in charge. League winners Granagh/Ballingarry with the wind at their backs dominated the opening 6 minutes with points by Mark Snow on two minutes, Brendan Lynch fee on four minutes and Mark Snow play on six minutes before James Guina opened the Feohanagh/Castlemahon boys’ account from a placed ball a minute later to leave it 0-3 to 0-1 in favour of Granagh/Ballingarry on 7 minutes. Then points were traded from placed balls by Brendan Lynch on 8 minutes and JamesGuina on 10 minutes before a pair of white flags courtesy of Kevin Forde from play on 12 minutes and Brendan Lynch from a placed ball three minutes later to put Granagh/Ballingarry three ahead at the end of the first quarter.

The Feohanagh/Castlemahon boys now began to up their game and dominated for seven minutes with a trio of unanswered flags courtesy of John McEnery from play on 17 minutes, James Guina from a placed ball on 19 minutes and John McEnery play three minutes later to reduce the deficit to one, 0-6 to 0-5 on 22nd minutes. Both sides found it hard to make scoring chances until one pair of white flags courtesy of Brendan Lynch from play on 26 minutes and a placed ball three minutes later extended theGranagh/Ballingarry boys advantage to three on 29 minutes. With no more scores in the final minutes of this well contested opening half Granagh/Ballingarry went in at the interval still three ahead, 0-8 to 0-5.

Feohanagh/Castlemahon made a good start to the second half with points by James Guina from a placed ball on 32 minutes and Noel Kirwan from play three minutes later to close the gap to one once more Granagh/Ballingarry 0-8, Feohanagh/Castlemahon 0-7 on 35 minutes. Granagh/Ballingarry dominated the next 20 minutes, superior in every position with scores by Brendan Lynch 0-1 free, Mark Snow 1-1 sub Jack O’Donoghue 1-0 and Kevin Forde 0-1 to leave it 2-11 to 0-8 in their favour on 55 minutes. A couple of wides were exchanged before Mark Liston finally ended 23 minutes without aFeohanagh/Castlemahon score when he sent a 40 metre placed ball between the uprights on 58 minutes.

The final few minutes produced no more scores and at Donie Neville’s final whistle it was Granagh/Ballingarry who were celebrating a winning start to the West Junior B Hurling Championship campaign after a most enjoyable contest on a full time score of 2-11 to 0-8 to go level on top of the league championship table on two points with Newcastle West andFeohanagh/Castlemahon.

West Minor B Football Championship Round 2

The West Minor B football championship resumes after the break for exams tomorrow Thursday 11th July when holdersGranagh/Ballingarry/Banogue play Dáithi Bourdairs at 7.30pm. in Banogue which is a repeat of last year’s decider won 0-15 to 3-3 by the Granagh/Ballingarry/Banogue boys at Pairc Caoimh o Luing, Feenagh on Saturday 4th October.

The winning Granagh/Ballingarry/Banogue side was Richie O’Keeffe, Ryan Brady, Bradley Daly, Kevin Mulcahy, James Dore, Stephen Hickey, Jack O’Donoghue 0-3, Brendan Lynch, Edward Sheehy 0-1, Aaron Smith 0-1, Aaron O’Kelly 0-7, Damien O’Donovan, Cathal O’Keeffe 0-3, Stephen Ruttle, Aidan Meade. Subs used Brian Noonan and Brian Thompson. In the opening series of games on Friday 24th April St. Kieran's defeated Dáithi Broudairs by five points 4-9 to 0-16 at Coolcappa whileGranagh/Ballingarry received a walkover from St. Senan's. O’CONNOR GOAL VITAL TO FOURTH LEAGUE WIN

An opportunist goal by Kevin O’Connor on 22 minutes following good work by Padraig Lynch was crucial toGranagh/Ballingarry’s three point victory over neighbours Croom to take their fourth brace of points in Division 2 of the County Hurling League at Croom on Saturday evening to remain top of the table. A good crowd turned out to watch this clash of neighbours play on a well laid out pitch with Seamus Hayes of Mungret/St. Pauls in charge. Both sides were forced to line out minus key players in this tit for tat contest with Kevin O’Connor’s green flag for Granagh/Ballingarry on 20 minutes the difference between the sides at the final whistle.

Granagh/Ballingarry started brightly with a pair of white flags from placed balls by Denis O’Connor in the opening three minutes before points were traded by James Molone on five minutes and Denis O’Connor two minutes later to leave it Granagh/Ballingarry 0-3, Croom 0-1 on 7 minutes. A couple of wides were exchanged before a trio of white flags from placed ball by Conor Laffan on 11, 14 and 17 minutes put Croom one ahead, 0-4 to 0-3. The next three minutes saw both sides miss chances before Kevin O’Connor following good work by Padraig Lynch finished past keeper Ger Flynn to put the visitors two ahead 1-3 to 0-4 eight minutes from the interval Croom far from being overawed scored a couple of points in the next four minutes through Conor Laffan on 24 and 26 minutes from placed balls to level the scoreGranagh/Ballingarry 1-3, Croom 0-6.

The points were traded by Seán Lenihan on 2 minutes and Conor Laffan two minutes later to leave the sides still level, Granagh/Ballingarry 1-4, Croom 0-7 at the interval. Denis O’Connor and Conor Laffan exchanged white flags from placed balls in the opening three minutes after the interval before a trio of white flags from placed balls by Denis O’Connor on 35, 37 and 38 minutes put the black and greens three ahead 1-8 to 0-8.

Then points were traded by ConorLaffan on 39 minutes and Denis O’Connor on 41 minutes James Malone on 43 minutes and Micheál Clancy on 44 minutes, Jack O’Donoghue 46 minutes and Conor Laffin from a placed ball on 48 minutes to leave the Granagh/Ballingarry boys still three ahead 1-11 to 0-11 with 12 minutes of normal time remaining on the clock.

Denis O’Connor extended the Granagh/Ballingarryboys’ advantage to five with a pair of white flags from play on 49 minutes and a placed ball two minutes later. Then Peter Croganfrom play on 53 minutes and Stephen Kelly from a placed ball two minutes later won points back from Croom to close the gap tothree 1-13 to 0-13 on 55 minutes. Then points were exchanged by James Malone from play 56 minutes and Denis O’Connor from a placed ball on 58 minutes. Denis O’Connor from another placed ball on 59 minutes and James Malone play two minutes later to leave Granagh/Ballingarry still three ahead 1-15 to 0-15 at the final whistle.

Granagh/Ballingarry scored 1-6 from play and 1-9 from frees. Croom scored 0-7 from play and 0-8 from frees.

SECOND WIN FOR GRANAGH/BALLINGARRY

West Junior B Hurling Championship Group 2 Round 2

Feenagh/Kilmeedy…..1-3

Granagh/Ballingarry recorded their second win in Group 2 of the West Junior B Hurling Championship with an emphatic 25 point victory over gallant Feenagh/Kilmeedy at Knockaderry on Sunday evening. A small crowd turned out to watch this game which was played on a well laid out pitch with Tom Deenihan of Athea in charge.

League winners Granagh/Ballingarry were sharper, more direct, shoed better touches up front and were too strong for their opponents. They led at the break after playing with the aid of the wind by 0-20 to 1-2.

In the second half the black and greens continued to pile on the pressure and added 11 points to their total to one for their opponents. Credit to the Feenagh/Kilmeedy boys who refused to give up and continually took the fight to their much stronger opponents. Granagh/Ballingarry were comfortable winners of their second successive brace of points in group 2 of the West Junior B Hurling Championship on a full time score of 0-31 to 1-3.

Granagh/Ballingarry scored 0-24 from play and 0-7 from frees, Feenagh/Kilmeedy scored all 1-3 from play.

Munster Intermediate Hurling Championship Final

We wish the best of luck to the Limerick Intermediate hurlers who chase a fourth Munster Championship first since 2008 when they clash with All Ireland Champions Cork at Pairc Ui Rinn, Cork, today Wednesday July 8th at 7.30pm.

LIMERICK BACK ON TRACK

All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Qualifier Round 1

Limerick...4-15, Westmeath...1-12,

Limerick qualified to play Dublin in the second round of the All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship qualifier with a hard fought 12 point victory over gallant Westmeath in front of 2,700 fans at Cusack Park, Mullingar, on Sunday. The Green and Whites led by two, 2-6 to 1-7 at the interval. Westmeath again battled bravely in the second half and were only 4 points behind, with 12 minutes remaining on the clock.

Limerick finished strongly with 1-4 through substitutes Declan Hannon 0-3, Thomas O’Brien 0-1 and a clinching green flag by Adrian Breen.

We wish our own Donal and the Limerick boys the best of luck in their clash with Dublin on this Saturday 11th July in Thurles at 5pm for a place in the All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship quarter final against Galway, Waterford or Tipperary.

Munster Minor Hurling Championship Final

We wish the best of luck to the Limerick Minors in their bid for a third successive Munster Minor Hurling Championship title when they clash with Tipperary on this Sunday 12th July in Thurles at 2pm.

€8,500 Jackpot on Monday

There was no winner of the €8,500 jackpot in the Granagh-Ballingarry GAA club lottery on Monday 6th July in Dinny A’s Bar,Ballingarry.

The numbers drawn were 5, 20, 23 and 30.

Lucky dips of €20 each went to Maria Noonan, Tina and Josh, J. and E.Cregan, Jerome McSweeny and David Brosnan.

The next draw is on Monday July 13th in Barrett’s Bar, Ballingarry, for a jackpot of €8,500. We thank all our punters for their continued support.

Cúl Camp

All Ireland Hurling Qualifiers Tickets

This Saturday 11th July sees the All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Qualifiers, Round 2, at Semple Stadium, Thurles. Limerick play Dublin at 5pm and Cork play Clare at 7pm.

Tickets for these games will be distributed to the Granagh-Ballingarryclub members who have ordered them tomorrow Thursday 9th July at 9.15pm.

Note: If the demand for tickets exceeds the supply, a draw will take place on the night. A limited number of Munster Hurling Final tickets will also be on sale on the night.

West Minor A and B Hurling Championship

St. Kieran’s travel to Seán Finn’s, Rathkeale, on Tuesday 14th July to play Granagh-Ballingarry/Rathkeale in the first game in the West Minor Hurling Championship.

Three teams: Daithi Broudairs, Granagh-Ballingarry/Rathkeale and St. Kieran’s are in this championship which is played on a league system in one group, with the top two teams to qualify for the A Final and the loser to play the third placed team in the B Final.

Your support would be welcome on Tuesday evening for the Granagh-Ballingarry and Banogue boys and their management team of Liam Lynch, Richie O’Keeffe and James O’Connor.
