HISTORIC NIGHT :

HISTORIC NIGHT:

The Liam McCarthy Cup was welcomed in great style by a packed community center on Wednesday 5th. From babies to grandparents and everyone in between, arrived to see the famous Cup and meet the team members who were responsible for this famous victory.

We very much appreciate Aaron Gillane and Dan Morrissey's attendence, in the midst of their very busy schedules.

Sincere thanks to Seamus Twomey, County Development Officer and Siobhan Scanlon for including Granagh on the itinerary. It was wonderful to be able to hold the actual Cup and hear and see the players up close. Our MC, Jim Chawke, no stranger to a hurley himself, did the honours. Coincidentally, Jim's father, Ned was a member of the 1940 All Ireland winning team, captained by Mick Mackey.

The highlight of the night was getting a photo with the Cup, in our specially prepared photo booth.! We couldn't have managed without our photographers who did a marvelous job, they were on their knees for at least an hour and a half. Thanks a million to Sean Simcox and Marian Sheehy. They were ably assisted by Emma & Roy McMahon who took the mobile photos for everyone. Granagh Development had a team of people helping in different ways to prepare for the night. Thanks to those who decorated the Hall, those who supplied baking, those who served the teas and those who helped with the clean-up after. Thanks to Tom O'Gorman who sponsored the goodies for the children, Simone and Bridget looked after their distribution. Thanks to Eimhin for setting up the sound system and the car parkers - John Sheehy, Tom O'Regan and Liam Herlihy.

We must also thank Seamus and Jim for arranging to take the Cup around to our parishioners in Hospital and those who could not make it to the Hall. What a special experience.

As Jim mentioned on the night, the main Hall floor we were standing on, was going to be no more after the weekend. It was the last function to be held before the new floor goes down. That old timber floor has given tremendous service. It cannot be estimated how many feet have traversed those timbers and how many functions it has catered for, over a forty year period. It has served us very well indeed.
