CUAN MHUIRE - MARKET: Again, this Thursday 20th a Farmer's market will be held from 10.30am - 12.30pm, at the Garden Centre, Bruree. Lots to choose from, Bread, Preserves, Salmon, Pottery, Crafts, Candles and Handmade cards for all occasions, all local.
DeVALERA MUSEUM: Friday 21st at 8pm: As it is Culture Night they are looking back at the Touring Shows of the 1920’s -1970’s. These shows crisscrossed the country entertaining people in towns and villages. None were as well known as Vic Loving and her fabulous ‘Flash Parade’ show. Coming from Music Hall she brought colour, glamour and drama to Irish audiences. There will be a Q&A for those interested in Theatre, given by Vikki Jackson, Vic Lovings grand-daughter. Also ‘born on the stage’ she will answer questions about that long gone way of life. Photos and memorabilia will be on display.
ARDAGH CHALICE FESTIVAL: The festival, opening coming Friday, will comprise of a number of different events taking place over the course of the next two weekends, celebrating the 150th anniversary of the finding of the Chalice near Ardagh. Friday 21st:- History seminar by Dr. Raghnall O’Floinn, Director of National Museum of Ireland, and Dr. Catherine Swift, Lecturer in Medieval and Irish Studies at MIT, Limerick. In the community centre at 8pm. Saturday 22nd: 10am -4pm: Free genealogy workshop on your family history. 3pm: Rerasta Fort - Guided Walk & Talk. 7.30pm: Display by Junior Comhaltas Ceoltoiri and the Ceilidh House Concert recorded the week before will be broadcast on the night. Sunday 23rd: Street entertainment, food stalls, family fun, petting zoo, Vintage Car rally, Photo Booth with costumes & masks. 4pm: Tree Planting to commemorate Jim Quin and Paddy Flanagan, finders of the Chalice hoard. The following weekend, Ardagh will host a Medieval Fayre , Viking re-enactment and an outdoor play, set in medieval times, culminating in a battle scene, and the loss of the Chalice. The festival will draw to a close with a classical concert in the Church.
BROADFORD EVENT: Saturday 22nd September: Fairy Village - Children's Walk, starting from Broadford Handball Alley at 11am. 3pm: - Storytelling and Songs with Eddie Lenihan, ( famous storyteller and folklorist) and performance by Broadford Youth Choir, in the Community Centre, (suitable for children over 7 ). Sunday 23rd September: Starting at Killagholehane Graveyard at 12pm. First, a short talk by a local historian on The Great Hunger in the Broadford/ Killeedy/Dromcollogher areas. '95 STOP TOUR': Live 95Fm's great fundraiser for local charities - The Ark, The Neo-Natal Unit, CARI and Cliona's Foundation, kicked off in the Longcourt House Hotel on Monday 17th. The 95 stop tour over the last few years collected the much-needed additional funds for the Children's Ark at University Hospital Limerick (UHL) and Neonatal Unit at University Maternity Hospital Limerick (UMHL). They are indebted to the kind-hearted people of Limerick and the wider Mid-West for their generous support over the years. Such funds generated will be spent locally to help and support the sick babies and children of this region through the purchase of high-tech equipment with appropriate staff training and research as well as to improve the child-friendly facilities in hospitals.
DISTRICT FORUM: The next Ballyhoura Development Golden Vale District Forum takes place at Coote Hall Resource Centre, Kilmallock, at 7.30pm on Monday the 1st of October. Discuss matters in common across, your community in relation to social inclusion, recruiting volunteers etc. Meet Ballyhoura Development staff and get insights on the various work placement initiatives available to your community via the Tús programme and the Rural Social Scheme. Get an overview of funding for community groups from previous years and plan your own projects for next year. Take part in a discussion around challenges for communities and focus on solutions to these issues. This meeting is open to all communities in the Golden Vale District - Ballyagran/Castletown, Banogue, Bruff, Meanus, Bruree, Charleville, Colmanswell, Croom, Dromin, Athlacca, Granagh, Kilmallock, Knockainey, , Manister.
