GRANAGH & 1916:

Jim Chawke has instigted plans to commemorate 1916. It will be held on Sunday 24th April at 6.30pm.

It will be outdoors to begin with - marching from the Creamery to the School, where the flag will be raised. Then into the hall for the staging of some scenes from 1916.

He is looking for as many men & women of all ages, teens and children to take part. The idea is to have as many people as possible in the parish involved.

You can be part of the crowd marching, joining in songs/poetry, some people will be needed to act out the scenes while the narrator tells the story.

Anyone who thinks they want to be part of it in any way, whether its with more specialised skills e.g. sound, smoke effects, costumes or whatever, please let Jim know. There will be two practises prior to the 24th April.

If you and your family would like to be a part of what will be a memorable occasion, please send on Names and Mobile Nos to Jim Chawke. Looking forward to hearing from as many as possible.

* 22 students from colleges including CIT Cork ,DIT , and RIAM have been selected to take part in the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra's 2016 Mentoring Scheme for young musicians.

Among the students chosen is our own Sophie Butler on Double Bass and co-teacher in Musica Fusion School, Emma Downes on Violin. 18 of the 22 students will play with the orchestra for the first time.

Unlike previous years where all students took part in some or all of the same concert, the 2016 scheme will take place over a number of RTÉ NSO concerts, starting this week and running through to the end of June.

  A great achievement .

* On a completely different note, well done to Cailinn Noonan, a student with Charleville Taekwondo School who won two bronze medals in the Black Belt section at the Munster Championships.
