West Junior B Hurling Championship quarter-final

At sunny Adare on Saturday afternoon, West champions Granagh-Ballingarry came from three points down at the interval to defeat South runners-up Camogue Rovers by four points with a polished second-half performance with the wind at their backs, shooting nine points and holding their opponents to two, to qualify for their first county Junior B Hurling Championship semi-final since 2008.
The Adare officials had their pitch in top class condition with the electric scoreboard in operation for this game between two fine sporting sides played in front of a good crowd with Jason O'Mahony of Kildimo in charge. The Granagh-Ballingarry starting fifteen showed two necessary changes from that which beat Feohanagh-Castlemahon in the West, Kevin O'Kelly and Patrick Potter replacing Michael O'Rourke and team captainMark Tierney.
The first half saw Granagh-Ballingarry play with wind advantage but it was Granagh-Ballingarry who were first off the mark with a second-minute point by Eoin Casey, cancelled out three minutes later from a 65 by Anthony Neylonfor 0-1 each on 5 minutes. A couple of wides were exchanged before points were traded by Anthony Neylon from a placed ball on 8 minutes and Kevin O'Kelly on 9 to level again, 0-2 each.
Then points for Camogue Rovers by Michael O'Brien on 11 minutes and Anthony Neylon from a placed ball on 12 were cancelled out from placed balls by John O'Grady on 13 and 15 minutes to level for the third time at 0-4 each at the end of the third quarter. Three minutes later after inaccurate shooting by both sides points were traded by John O'Grady on 18 minutes and Michael O'Donnell on 2 before a crucial score when a good forward surge by Camogue Rovers was finished with a cracking David Dooley goal on 22 ins to put Rovers three ahead, 1-5 to 0-5.
The next three minutes were close and exciting with both sides missing chances before points were traded by AnthonyNeylon from a placed ball on 26 minutes and Padraig Lynch on 27, John O'Grady on 28 and David Dooley on 30 to leave Camogue Rovers leading at the interval 1-7 to 0-7.
Granagh-Ballingarry with wind advantage had two points, from play and a placed ball, by John O'Grady in the first four minutes of the second half before points were traded by Thomas O'Donnell on 36 minutes and John O'Grady from a placed ball on 38 to reduce the deficit to one, Camogue Rovers 1-8 Granagh-Ballingarry 0-10 on 38 minutes. David Dooley and Anthony Neylon had wides for Camogue Rovers before John O'Grady made the sides level for the fifth time from a long range placed ball on 41 minutes.
Then Brian Fitzgerald of Granagh-Ballingarry showed his class with a long range point on 43 minutes cancelled out from a placed ball two minutes later by Anthony Neylon to level for the 6th time in this close and hard fought contest, Granagh-Ballingarry 0-12 Camogue Rovers 1-9 at the end of the third quarter.
Then the game turned in favour of grra when Camogue Rovers created a great chance to go three up on 37 minutes when Anthony Neylon cut through the defence and was one-on-one with keeper Conor Mulqueen, but a brilliant hook by his marker Edward Sheehy denied him the goal and Edward cleared a long ball out of defence collected by Jack O'Donoghue who pointed it to put Granagh-Ballingarry ahead for the second time 0-13 to 1-9 on 38 minutes.
Camogue Rovers hit a couple of wides before Granagh-Ballingarry upped their game with four points courtesy of Jack O'Donoghue on 51 and 53 minutes, John O'Grady on 55 and Jack O'Donoghue on 58 to leave the West champions four ahead. Rovers put together a couple of scoring chances in the final two minutes but failed to convert them and at the final whistle Granagh-Ballingarry were celebrating their 12th win of the season and a place in the County Junior B Hurling Championship semi-final for the first time since 2008.
Granagh-Ballingarry scored 0-11 from play and 0-5 from frees; Camogue Rovers scored 1-4 from play, 0-4 from frees and 0-1 from a 65.

Granagh-Ballingarry’s brave bid to reach the Division 3 County U16 Hurling Championship final just failed when they lost to a physically stronger Kilteely-Dromkeen XV by four points at Mick Neville Park Rathkeale on Saturday afternoon. Well done to the management team and the panel of players for giving some outstanding displays to reach the semi-final.
County Division 3 U14 Football Championship final
Mick Neville Park Rathkeale at 4pm is the venue this Saturday 3rd October for this meeting of neighbouring rivals Granagh-Ballingarry and Rathkeale. The boys in black and green have qualified for Saturday’s final having beaten Athea, Cappamore, Shamrock Gaels, Mungret-St Paul's and Monaleen on the way. Please support our U14 footballers if possible.
Dunworth Cup replay this Saturday
The replay of the 23rd final of the Granagh-Ballingarry senior hurling tournament for the Dunworth Cup and a set of 21 engraved medals will be played this Saturday, 3rd October, in Ballingarry at 5.30pm sharp when last year’s junior A champions Feohanagh-Castlemahon play Premier Intermediate Championship holders Granagh-Ballingarry, who have qualified for the West Intermediate semi-final and West Senior Hurling Championship and seek three in a row. The drawn game on 23rd August featured a point from a 30 metre placed ball two minutes into added time by Alan Roche to earn Feohanagh-Castlemahon a deserved 4-16 to 3-19 draw in a thrilling 42-score contest.

A social evening will follow Sunday’s final in Dinny A’s bar during which the Man of the Match award will be presented.

The final of the Croagh-Kilfinny hurling tournament for the Barry Quaid Memorial Cup and a set of 21 engraved medals will be played on Saturday 10th October in Croagh at 5pm when Granagh-Ballingarry clash with Croagh-Kilfinny. Your support would be appreciated.
€9,700 jackpot on Monday
The numbers drawn in the Granagh-Ballingarry G.A.A. club lottery on Monday 28th September were 8, 13, 19 and 29. The jackpot was not won. Lucky dips of €20 each: Kevin Kennedy, Pat O'Connor, Liam Herlihy, Seamus O'Sullivan and Mrs. Hayes. The next draw is on Monday 5th October in Dinny A’s bar Ballingarry for a jackpot of €9,700. Important meeting on Friday
A special general meeting of Granagh-Ballingarry G.A.A. Club takes place this Friday 2nd October in the Ballingarry clubhouse at 8pm. All club members are asked to attend as a number of important issues are up for discussion.

The County U21 13-a-side Hurling Championship playoff, Granagh-Ballingarry v Killeedy, and the semi-final will played on dates and venues to be confirmed.
