COLAISTE Na TROCAIRE SINGS:

it all began when the choir sang at the World Meeting of Families event in Mary Immaculate College this April.  They progressed and were ultimately successful in joining the larger youth choir, which will sing during the papal Mass in Phoenix Park on August 26.

The papal Mass will be televised, broadcast around the world, and watched by millions.

Jean O'Brien, music teacher and the school chaplain, Olivia Giltenane, have been working with the choir since they received the good news this summer.     Jean, who is heading up the choir of around thirty five people, includes students, past-pupils, parents and teachers.
“We are practicing now and it’s full steam ahead.    Everyone is coming in on their own free time to practice, while they are on their summer holidays.

We are going up to Dublin this weekend to the RDS for a big rehearsal with the other strands of the choir, and we will know where we are going to be placed and more details after that.    We will be representing Rathkeale and the school will be represented,  it’s such an incredible honour,” said Ms O’Brien.

MAEVE B:

Some pearls of wisdom from that wonderful author, Maeve Binchy, on this her sixth anniversary.

“Learn to type. Learn to drive. Have fun. Write postcards. (Letters take too long and you won’t do it, a postcard takes two minutes.) Be punctual. Don’t worry about what other people are thinking. They are not thinking about you. Write quickly. (Taking longer doesn’t usually make it better.)

Get up early.   See the world.   Call everybody by their first name, from doctors to presidents. Have parties.

Don’t agonise. Don’t regret. Don’t fuss. Never brood. Move on. Don’t wait for permission to be happy.Don’t wait for permission to do anything. Make your own life.”
