TROCÁIRE LENTEN CAMPAIGN.

This Lenten season the focus is on Kumba and the Koroma family in Freetown, Sierra Leone,  who were affected by recent landslides in their area. This tragic event cost them their home, possessions, work tools and changed the course of this family’s and their community’s future forever.

Sierra Leone is in northern Africa, on the west coast, a country the same size as Ireland with a population of 7.1million, ( Ireland's is 4.7million)

Families are struggling to overcome untold disasters and tragedies.   An eleven year civil war ended in 2002 which resulted in 50,000 dead and 2 million displaced.

The Ebola crisis in 2014-2016 claimed 4,956 lives.   Then in 2017 this community were struck by the massive mudslides, in which they lost everything.
They are doing everything they can to keep their families together and their children in school.

They don’t have a choice, they have to keep going, helping family, friends and neighbours along the way.

BUT  they need our help. !!   Because people fill their Trocáire boxes every Lent, the organisation was able to reach out to 71,000 people in 2016/17.  Please pick up this year's Trocáire Box in the Church.   For more information please visit Trocaire’s parish page on www.trocaire.org/resources/parishes/lent
