Lay- Led  COMMUNITY PRAYER:

There will be no weekday Masses in the parish this week, so people are invited to come to Church to join in a short service of community prayer instead.   In Ballingarry, this Wednesday 7th at 7pm and in Granagh Friday 9th at 7pm.

COLLECTION - PARISH CLERKS:

This coming weekend, 10th & 11th, our parish clerks collection  will be held.   The parish could not function without them as they make themselves available not only for Masses but also Baptisms, Marriages, Funerals and any other service in the Church.  Please show your appreciation for them.

GRANAGH PLAYERS:

And so concludes another very successful Drama run, as The Chastitute finished its final night last Saturday.   We hope all the audience members enjoyed their visit to Granagh and we wish to thank each and everyone for supporting us.     It is truly a community effort from start to finish and each single job, no matter how small, plays an important part in the bigger picture.

Our volunteers are marvelous as they look after everything from putting up/ taking down signs to parking, setting out chairs, making sandwiches and pastries, endless wash-up, organising the raffle, selling tickets, serving in the shop and remaining afterwards to tidy up.

Back stage we have Mary Morrissey & Loraine Fitzgibbon who sort out everybody's make-up and are ready at the interval for touch-ups.!   Marylee Stapleton arrived on the Saturday and Sunday nights to do hair for the ladies, which was very much appreciated and naturally they looked fantastic.  On lighting, for his first year, we had Eimhin O'Regan, who did a great job.  Thanks to Eileen Power & Niamh O'Hanlon who looked after the raffle and to Marian Noonan  who stood in as MC for the last four nights.   And thanks to Marian Sheehy for taking all the photos.!!!

As ever, we are indebted to our extraordinarily generous sponsors who supply hampers, vouchers, wines, spirits and much much more which enabled us to give out a total of 73 raffle prizes over the seven nights.!!!   This is entirely a Granagh phenomenon and you will not find the likes of it anywhere else !!!     Finally, our actors, who dedicate their time and effort, over a number of months, to provide us with top class entertainment, every January, they are a great bunch of people to work with.

It was great to have six new faces join this year, which not alone makes it much more interesting for the audiences, but they bring a new energy to the group.     What have we left to say about our Producer, Jimmy Sheehy, that hasn't already been said.!!    He has to begin the whole process and see it through to completion.   He has to decide on parts suitable for each cast member, arrange the stage setting, props, choose suitable songs and like this year, find extra people to fill all the necessary smaller roles.   Along with that, he has to try and bring a fresh insight to these older plays which have had many performances over the years.   He manages to do all this, every year, and ensures  that there will be many memorable moments throughout.   As the advert goes -  " If Heineken did Plays, they would Never be able to do them as good as Jimmy Sheehy ".

FINAL CELEBRATION:

The All Ireland winning Aviva team held their final celebration last Friday night in the community centre.   A special photo book of memories was presented to each team member, the managers - Seamus & Tom- and the school.   Marian Sheehy, took on the massive task of compiling all her photos, from the start of their campaign and ending at the Aviva Stadium.  Along with that, she personalised each book which took months of work.   She is to be highly complimented as this is a wonderful keepsake and record of something that may never again be repeated..

MEMORIES OF THE PAST:

If you checkout the Granagh Facebook page - granaghcommunitynews, you will see up to six old videos recorded by Fr. Denis Browne, some going back to the 60s.    He recorded several Communions and you are sure to recognise lots of faces.

MUSICA FUSION TO NCH:

Wishing the teachers and students of Susie Butler's Musica Fusion School, the very best of luck for their first ever performance in the National Concert Hall on Saturday 10th.

The Orchestra has 80 members between the ages of four and eighteen

and is one of just eight orchestras invited to perform at the festival of Youth Orchestras, in Dublin .  The orchestra will present an ambitious five-piece programme which ranges from the theme of the children’s TV programme Sesame Street to the Slavonic March by Tchaikovsky.   The orchestra members play violin, cello, double bass, flute, clarinet, trumpet and trombone.

Sophie Butler, who also plays double bass, was conductor and orchestrator with the orchestra until she left for Glasgow last September to study for a Master’s Degree in Double Bass Performance.
