June 11, 2017

                                                                                                                                              EXAMS:

Wishing all our students doing Junior and Leaving Cert exams, the very best of Luck.
Life is all about Chances and Opportunities . Never leave anything to CHANCE and never let an OPPORTUNITY get away.

AVIVA CHAMPIONS:

Little did we think, this day last week, that we would get the chance to welcome home our National School team as All-Ireland winners.

They were among girls and boys from twelve counties and twenty four schools who took part in six competitions at the national stadium.
They had been whittled down from the 28,500 children and 1,495 schools that took part in county, regional and provincial blitzes around the country to battle it out in front of former Republic of Ireland International Keith Andrews.   The schools were divided into provincial representatives from small, medium and large school divisions.
Granagh School was involved in the SPAR ‘A’ Cup and met the following teams.      Granagh NS 4 v 3 St Patrick's NS.  Granagh NS. 4 v 3 Scoil Chiaráin Naofa.  Granagh NS. 0 - 1 Scoil Bhríde.   Because of losing the last match, the team were sure they lost the competition, but by the points calculation they had actually won.!!

You can imagine the celebrations...!!!
Up to fifty enthusiastic supporters were encouraging them from the stands and needless to say they were thrilled.  To add to the drama, Paudie Murphy was declared player of the Tournament...the icing on the cake....

Minister Patrick O'Donovan arrived at the AVIVA and added his congratulations.

When news of the victory filtered back to the parish, plans were hatched to welcome them home.   A convoy met the buses at Anhid Cross and with flags flying, they were escorted through the parish, ending up at the school.   There, the bonfire was lighting and a  big crowd  gathered to give them a wonderful welcome home.  Everyone wanted a picture with the cup and our local SPAR representative, the one and only Donal O'Grady, arrived to congratulate the team also.!

We must sincerely thank the sponsors and the general public for their generous contributions and support, which helped prepare the team for the AVIVA.

Sincere thanks to Tom Gorman (O'Gormans Foodstore Granagh) and John Sheehy

( M.J.Sheehy Ltd Granagh) who sponsored the School team with Tracksuit Legs

and John Carroll (Laochra Sports) who sponsored their T.Shirts.

Of course, their coaches  Seamus Murphy and Tom O'Gorman were only fantastic.   Seamus had been to the AVIVA three years ago coaching the school team who came fourth that year.   That, along with his years of experience coaching various soccer teams, added an extra advantage.   His phone has been hoppin' since, we will be lucky to hold onto him....   Tom is goin' around with a pen over his ear, ready to sign autographs at a moments notice.....

Once again, hearty congratulations to the team on a fabulous achievement -

TJ Tierney (capt),  Paudie Murphy, Mark O'Shea, Eoin Horgan, Luke Hayes,

Ian Sheehy, Zack Hayes and Sean O'Gorman.

WEDDING BELLS:

Sending congratulations to the newly wed couple Mr. & Mrs Harry Dore, Kilatal.   Last Saturday began very showery but the sun shone out after the ceremony.   An unexpected power cut delayed Fiona's arrival - The Rock Bar, every ready for emergencies, had tea and sandwiches laid out to sustain guests !!   Fr. Joe Cussen performed the ceremony and as is his style, it was simply beautiful.    Fiona was attended by her sister Emer, along with Carol Hickey, Lisa Kelly and Sally Flynn.   Not to be outdone, Harry brought his four friends, Mark O'Donnell, Peter Twomey, Stewart Clancy and Trevor Hughes.    The beautiful flower-girls were Alice & Isabel O'Brien with matching page-boys - Matt & Dan Salter.   Prayers of the Faithful were read by friends - Susan Slattery, Mary Lane, Aidan McCarthy, Aoife Waters, Tom Stack and Aimee McCarthy.

The ceremony was enhanced with music by Harpist Sinéad Beary and singers, Darragh Clancy, Jamie Herlihy, Sarah Collins, Faith & Demi.   The reception was held in Ballyroe Heights, Tralee where friends and family danced the night away.

Wishing Fiona & Harry never-ending love and the most happy life together.

MARATHON MAN:
James Kelly did it..... the 88Km (55ml) race from Durban to Pietermaritzburg, SouthAfrica.  He got through in 10 hours and 15 minutes.   An incredibly hot day at 28 degrees, and the hills were brutal, 1,805 meters or so climbed in total.  James is hoping you might want to contribute some money to two phenomenal causes, Self Help Africa's (SHA) who work across ten African countries as well as a literacy center in Haiti, both of which he has a strong connection with.     James has paid for the trip himself and all donations go directly to both organisations.    The following is the link to donate.   https://www.crowdrise.com/an-88km-race-55-miles-what-was-i-thinking

Congratulations and well done James on an amazing achievement.
