DUNWORTH CUP FINAL THIS SUNDAY

 

The 23rd final of the Granagh-Ballingarry senior hurling tournament for the Dunworth Cup and a set of 21 engraved medals will be played on Sunday 23rd August in Ballingarry at 6.45pm sharp. When last year’s county junior A champions Feohanagh-Castlemahon who have qualified for the quarter-finals of this year’s County Intermediate Hurling Championship clash with premier intermediate championship holders Granagh-Ballingarry seeking three in a row. This promises to be a thrilling Dunworth Cup final between two evenly matched sides still in contention to qualify for the knockout stages of their respective intermediate championships and should draw a large crowd to the garden town venue on Sunday evening to see if holders Granagh-Ballingarry can win it for the 8th time and make it three in a row or if last year’s county junior A champions Feohanagh-Castlemahon can inscribe their name on the base of the cup for the first time.

WEST MINOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINAL PREVIEW

 

The West Limerick Minor B Football Championship semi-finals are fixed for Tuesday 25th August at 6.45pm. St. Senan's play St Kieran's in Askeaton while Pairc Caoimh O Luing Feenagh-Kilmeedy plays host to the meeting of holders Granagh-Ballingarry/Banogue and Dáithi Broudairs representing Dromcollogher-Broadford and Killeedy, a repeat of last year’s final won 0-15 to 3-3 by Granagh-Ballingarry/Banogue at Pairc Caoimh O Luing Feenagh on Saturday 4th October.

 

(That Granagh-Ballingarry side was Richie O'Keeffe, Ryan Brady, Bradley Daly, Kevin Mulcahy, James Dore, Stephen Hickey, Jack O'Donoghue 0-3, Brendan Lynch, Edward Sheehy 0-1, Aaron Smith 0-1, Aaron O'Kelly 0-7, Damien O'Donovan, Cathal O'Keeffe 0-3, Stephen Ruttle, Aidan Meade, subs used Brian Noonan and Brian Thompson;

 

Dáithi Broudairs scorers were Denis Donegan 0-3, Mickie Browne 1-0 and Declan Stack 1-0.)

 

When these clubs met in the opening game of this year’s competition the Granagh-Ballingarry/Banogue combination playing fast attacking football and shooting seven goals four in the first half were emphatic 18 points 7-8 to 1-8 winners over a very under-strength Dáithi Broudairs side. That Granagh-Ballingarry/Banogue team was Darragh Brady, Mickey Moloney, Jack O'Donoghue 0-1, Jerry Quaid, Edward Sheehy 1-2, Seán O'Connor, Aidan Costelloe 0-2, Brendan Lynch, Seán O'Leary, Aidan Meade 0-1, Bradley Daly 5-0, Richie O'Keeffe 1-1, sub used Brian Thompson 0-1. The Dáithi Broudairs scorers were Donal Molyneaux 1-1, Denis Donegan 0-3, Jack O'Sullivan 0-2, Daniel Curtin 0-1 and Daire Curtin 0-1.

We wish the best of luck to our own David Condron who is part of the Limerick U21 hurling squad to play Galway this Saturday 22nd August at Semple Stadium Thurles at 6pm for a place in the All-Ireland final for the first time since 2002.

€9,100 Jackpot on Monday

 

There was no winner of the €9,100 jackpot in the Granagh-Ballingarry GAA Club lottery on Monday August 17th in the Rock Bar, Granagh. The numbers drawn were 12, 13, 17 and 31. The lucky dips of €20 each went to Brian Snow, Catriona Broderick, Paula Hartnett, Donal McGoey and David Brosnan. The next draw is on Monday 24th August at Dinny A’s Bar, Ballingarry, for a jackpot of €9,100. We thank all our punters for their continued support.
